Paragraph 1 Many people have contributed to the filed of psychology. Three whom I believe made significant impacts are Socrates, Aristotle and Rene Descartes. In the following section, I will briefly discuss a bit about each individual, and then talk about which of the four archetypes they each fall under based on the information presented. Socrates was a classical Greek philosopher who devoted his life and work to searching for moral good, virtue, and justice. He developed a method of seeking knowledge by question and answer called dialectics. He used this technique to teach individuals about their own ignorance, so as to become more self-aware (Leahey, 2013). Based on this information, I believe Socrates would fit the archetype of the teacher. According to Larson (2002), the archetype of the teacher has its origins in Greek philosophy. This is around the time when people began to use rhetoric as a means of communicating ideas and imparting their wisdom to others. This is precisely what Socrates was known for, which is why he fits this archetype well. Then there is Aristotle, who was the first to philosophize on the basis of science (or as it was known in his time, natural philosophy). Aristotle main philosophical objective was to come up with a universal process of reasoning that would allow man to learn every conceivable thing about reality. In addition to philosophy, Aristotle was interested in geology, marine biology, and meteorology. In this day and age, the Marlboro Cowboy turns to his partner and says, â€Å"Bob I’ve got emphysema.† Within the last decade, smoking advertisements have been completely overshadowed by radical anti-tobacco advertisements. Smoking no longer brings to mind images of beautiful blonde women daintily holding cigarettes between their fingers. In place of this image, commercials display the realistic gory effects of cigarettes such as a woman with a hole in her throat and a man with his mouth completely deteriorated by smoking-caused cancer. There are four stages of sleep and according to The Better Sleep Council the first stage is when the mind is relaxing, and the eyes close. It is easy to wake someone during this stage, and people often feel like they are falling and suddenly jump.
